Break the IceExciting news!! I have a giveaway! Read to the bottom for details!!

To help Break the Ice, I’m sharing 10 weird, quirky, or just interesting facts about myself. I hope you’ll join my either by writing your own post and linking up to Top Ten {Tuesday} or sharing in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday at Many Little Blessings

  1. I was born and raised in the South (Mississippi to be exact), which means I like football, say y’all regularly, and never wear shoes (just kidding…sort of!).
  2. I LOVE cheeseburgers. I call myself the Connoisseur of Cheeseburgers. My favorite cheeseburger restaurants include Red Robin, Kincaid’s (DFW local chain), and Dutch’s (Fort Worth). Honorable mention: 5 Guys and Fries. My husband also grills a mean burger in the backyard. I like them with cheese and ketchup only. Occasionally I’ll put some diced onions on there.
  3. I was a cheerleader for 5 years in high school. I took my junior year off. In reference to #2, I would eat a 2 cheeseburger meal from McDonald’s before every game and eat another 2 cheeseburger meal from McDonald’s after every game. Yeah, I don’t have that metabolism anymore…and I don’t eat at McDonald’s anymore.
  4. I spent 7 weeks in Thailand as a summer Missionary through the Baptist Student Union after my freshman year of college. We lived in a children’s dorm (the Love Your Neighbor Dorm) in the Nan province of Thailand (Northern area). The children were mostly Hmong, and their families lived up high in the mountains. Because teachers could not get up the mountains during the rainy season, the children came down and lived in the dorms to attend school. We taught English, played lots of volleyball, sang songs, and attempted to learn Thai while loving on the kids in the name of Christ.

  5. While on our journey home from the above mission trip, I survived a “plane crash” of sorts. We were taking off out of Bangkok, literally going down the runway. Then we stopped. Some people said they saw an explosion. The electricity went out. Then we were told to quickly exit the aircraft via the nearest emergency exit. So I got to slide down the inflatable emergency exit slide. Turns out the plane hit a bird in one of the propellers causing the explosion some saw. While it’s a fond memory now, the 24 hours it delayed me reunion with my family caused great anxiety but also great growth in reliance on God.Thailand Flight
  6. I love English Bulldogs. I think they are the cutest little doggies ever. My family had at least one pretty much the whole time I was growing up. There was Susie, Late Bloomer, Bandit, PJ, and now TJ. TJ has a claim to fame. He was next in line to be the mascot at Mississippi State University (mine and my husband’s alma mater…we are BIG fans!), but at his debut ball game, he ran through the band knocking over a member and hid in the bushes. So he was fired and came to live the good life at my parents’ house.English Bulldog
  7. I worked for a summer at Lake Forest Ranch (a children and teen’s summer camp) while in college. My assigned duty for afternoon rec was…wait for it…boat driver! Never saw that coming, did you? Me either! I was picked because I had completed a boater’s safety course in Florida one summer in order to rent jet skis. I think it took us about an hour, and the “final test” was a group one. Haha. Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed that assignment.
  8. I met my husband my freshman year of college. We started dating in October, and I broke up with him at Thanksgiving. I told him “I just don’t see myself marrying you, so there is no point in us dating.” Yeah. I definitely I ate my words on that one. We got married 4 years later.
  9. I have a 15 month old son. We use cloth diapers, and I am extended breastfeeding. Some people say that’s weird, some people say that’s normal. If you had asked me a year ago, I would’ve said weird. Today, I say normal. I guess you just never know until you try something.
  10. I love to read and write. (okay so I guess that’s not weird or quirky, but 10 is a lot!) I’m really an academic at heart (maybe that’s weird). That’s probably a lot of why I chose a blog as a means of accountability for myself. I’ve been out of graduate school for a year, and honestly, I miss writing. I’m excited about the freedom to write about what I choose and in a more relaxed style.

I’m so excited to be able to give a Mint Blossom Pedicure Set by Mary Kay to one of my readers! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post either telling something about yourself or asking a question for my Q&A on Friday. Do both, and I’ll enter you twice! I’ll announce the winner on Friday! This Giveaway has ended. Congratulations to Valerie @ Momma in Progress!

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to say that I won the pedicure set at the MOB Society Twitter party to launch #21Days4Sons. I’m excited to be able to pass that on to a reader!

GO FOR IT! I’d love to read it! I like hearing the unique stuff about people!!

I think going crunchy is the new cool. That’s what I’m telling myself anyways!

I’m surprised he took me back after such a comment and even married me! I always tell him that I know he really loves me after all he put up with!

  2. Love the list. I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while, but I always wimp out because I can’t come up with 10 “good” ones. Then I feel like a big loser and write about something else. Ahem.
Totally with you on 2, 9, and 10. On 8 . . . I think my husband actually said something similar to ME about 5 months into dating, LOL.

  3. You have got to try Fatburger some time. Put that on your “to do” list right now! Congrats on the Allume ticket!! Can’t wait to meet you!!

    • MB@NewLifeSteward says:

Tell me where a Fatburger is, and it’s on my “to do” list!

I am super pumped about Allume. Can’t wait to meet my new virtual friends in real life!!

  4. It was nice to read more about you! I love cheeseburgers too—though I have a hard time finding “real” ones around here. Went to D.C. for the 2:1 conference and had the best hamburger at the hotel restaurant.Boy, I want one now!

    • MB@NewLifeSteward says:

Oh that would be sad not to have any “real” burgers around! Fire up the grill! They are usually the best anyhow!

  5. Rebecca says:

You know I’m all about extended breastfeeding :-) I am interested, though, in how you were able to cheer 5 years in high school and even manage to skip a year. Aren’t there only 4 years in high school?

  6. Quirky Fact about me: When I was younger I didn’t know breast feeding was an option for babies. I thought milk only came in formula form! Thankfully, my knowledge has changed and my complete outlook on breast feeding. I am definitely open to extending breast feeding past the first year now.

    • MB@NewLifeSteward says:

I didn’t know about it either! I remember thinking “well what a miracle!” when I learned about it!
