Today has been hard. It’s been really difficult for me to get motivated. I’ll save the complaining.
The focus of prayer for the challenge today is Submission to Authority. In the blog post by the MOB Society, Alle challenged the moms to think about how we could lead by example in this area. I talked about setting an example of obedience yesterday, but a post in the comment section of today’s MOB blog got me thinking more.
A mother talked about how she may be obedient and submissive to authority on the outside, but inwardly, she is angry. I can relate. Sometimes I submit begrudgingly because “it’s the right thing to do”. I think:
- They are doing a poor job.
- I could do a better job than them.
- ANYONE could do better than them.
- They aren’t even a Christian.
- It’s a stupid rule anyways! (HELLO…the speed limit!)
Instead of entertaining these thoughts, I pray that I will submit joyfully, remembering that the Lord grants authority.
So my prayer today has been that I can model a joyful heart of submission for Thomas.
May Thomas and I obey our leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over our souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let us do this with joy and not with groaning. Hebrews 13:17
Funny how prayer for someone else ends up changing the one lifting up the prayer.
Do you struggle with authority?
