Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

When I first won the ticket to Allume, I was nervous. Would I fit in? Would I get lost in the crowd? Do I even qualify as a blogger?

But it didn’t take long for that community to welcome me right in. Shortly after the Twitter party where I won the ticket, I got an exciting little tweet from a perfect stranger asking me if I wanted to room with her and another blogger.

I asked the hubby, and he’s immediately worried I’m going to get eaten in my sleep. But I can just tell that me and this chick…we have a connection. Over the last 5 months, we have built that connection and grown a friendship. Online. Never thought I’d say that.

We can chat seriously–about our struggles as mamas, our desires to know God more, and our dreams as bloggers.

We can chat sillily-ly-ly–about footied pajamas, and grippers, and protected our roomies from evil intruders (SEE I DID IT!…joke from #fmfparty).

And it’s awesome. and real. and now I’m not so nervous about Allume. Just totally pumped because I know she’ll be there.

All because @crystalstine was kind enough to welcome me into a community.

Thanks friend.

  1. Oh I just love this! I never would have thought I’d make the connections I have online either – for real. God has blessed me with some precious sisters & I’ve gotten to meet a good many of them – even had them come and stay to spend some beach fellowship – God is good! ;) enjoy enjoy enjoy – so awesome you won the ticket!

  2. That was so sweet Mary Beth! And I totally relate; this community of bloggers is so welcoming! I’m very excited about Allume, and I can’t wait to meet you! :)

  3. Enjoyed this…even though I won’t be at Allume.

  4. So sweet! Love how God uses so many different ways to connect His children together to form a community.

  5. Awww, Crystal is a sweet one. And welcoming she is. I think she was one of the very first people to ever comment on my blog, that I didn’t know in real life and therefore felt obligated to read me. LOL Can’t wait to meet you at Allume!

  6. StefanieYoungBrown says:

I love hearing this!! Thank you, Crystal for reaching out. Thank you, Mary Beth, for responding. You are a HUGE asset to the social media ministry.

  7. Well didn’t you just tackle everyone’s ball of nerves in five minutes with grace and the promise that friendship is waiting on the other side of welcome? Thanks Mary Beth, for your enthusiasm and joy! I can’t wait to meet you soon!

  8. Becky Daye says:

Absolutely love the way that God connects his girls! Look forward to meeting you at Allume- in my ungrippered, non-footie pj’s! :)

  9. Um. I love this. For obvious reasons, it might be my favorite thing you’ve ever written {grin}. I know I left you a comment on Twitter but just had to come make it official. And then I see all these other sweet comments? Blessing my socks off today! If I had footie pjs on they’d be footie-less.

  10. Oh, that’s lovely! I love hearing about community happening this way! I hope you have a great time at Allume.

  11. This gave me the warm fuzzies and I’m not even wearing footed pj’s! :)
What a gift this community of bloggers has become. Crystal is a prime example. And so are you.
I’m convinced she simply sees a good thing and goes for it.

and for future reference, I’ll be crying tears of joy and pity when you all meet in pj’s for this writing prompt at allume! :) so wish I could be there..hugging your neck.

  12. This may be one of my favorites. Nothing says you are welcome to my life like an inside joke (or three)! I’m downright giddy about all the funness coming our way in just 20 days!!!

  13. Tammy_Skipper says:

I had such a similar experience my first year, I know you will be blessed {and not eaten in your sleep!} hugs!

  14. I love this! First that you WON your ticket and then you are rooming with someone you have never met. I went last year alone – I didn’t know anyone. This year I am rooming with a friend I know that blogs. Can’t wait to meet you!

  15. I’m also experiencing a mixture of ‘so happy for you – and how encouraging that blogging friendships can translate so easily into ‘real world’ friendships’ and – ‘I’m jealous! I can’t go to these cool conferences!’ ah well.

Nice to catch up with you this week – hopefully i will be back on the linky trail next week too :-)

  16. Mary Beth this is GREAT! I was with you on the nervous thing…so I’m dragging my daughter along who also blogs…but that was before I got to “know” everyone. So totally excited to meet you at Allume and to see everyone from #FMFPARTY!!! It will be a funny, silly mess I”m sure!

Oh…and great job on the “joke”! ;)

  17. Jessica Chenoweth says:

How neat! A ticket that led to a new friendship. Hope you have a great time at Allume!

  18. This makes me feel jealous — I don’t get to go to Allume!!! But honestly I love your words . . . welcoming!
