Five Minute Friday

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

When you open a post from New Life Steward, what do you see? Who do you see?

When you look past the words and the attractive pictures, what is at the heart of this blog?

Moreover, when a friend, my son, my husband, looks at me–at my life–what do they see? Who do they see?

I’m an extraverted person. I love being the center of attention. I adore receiving accolades and praise. But really, at the heart of me, that’s not what I’m seeking. At least I hope not.

When I graduated from High School, I told my fellow seniors during my speech that I wanted to leave a legacy. I asked myself, “How will people remember me?” I based my speech on the Nicole Nordeman song. I want people to look at me and see Christ–God’s fingertips on every inch of me.

I don’t deserve your praise. He does. If you look at me, and don’t see Him. I wanna know. Because that is my heart’s desire. I pray He makes it so because I know I can’t on my own.

  1. Mary Beth, I had to pop over and say that though we don’t know each other well, I love your heart. And I don’t know how it’s possible to actually shine online, but you do! There’s just something about you! :) I’m glad you’re writing and I’m glad you’re doing it all for Jesus! Blessings!

  3. Mary Beth, this words are so important for me to hold close and ponder. I want Him to be seen in me, absolutely. Nothing else. Thank you!

  5. Laurie Byrne says:

Oh, I love “I want people to look at me and see Christ–God’s fingertips on every inch of me.” and the song is one of my favorites. A great reminder to, in all humbleness, give Him ALL of the glory! Thank you, Mary Beth.

  6. So true… I had somewhat the same sentiments… for people to see Jesus in me and I love that song :) Bless you!

Love your honesty….I’m an introvert….I love sharing, but need quiet/white space to renew….

  10. I see you, just as Christ made you. Friendly, warm, and pouring out love on those who come near. Beautiful in Him.

  11. StefanieYoungBrown says:

Love this song. Love your heart! I often think what the *dash* in between my birth and death dates will hold. May my legacy be one He smiles upon, my husband cherishes and my son honors.
    Beautiful post!

  12. What a beautiful write today. And, when I look at the pages of your blog, I see Jesus all over this space. You are blessing, one I am truly thankful for.

  14. JulieJordanScott2 says:

Love how your message from back then still lives in you (and now, in our seeing of you) many years later. :~) Glad we had a chance to connect via the #FMFParty tonight. Such an inspiration!

  15. Beautiful! I have this whole idea of you that is based on so much more than just this blog. I have a feeling it’s pretty accurate, too. You amaze me, but I know that you can just hang out in jeans with your hair pulled back and just be real. I love that!

  16. “I want people to look at me and see Christ–God’s fingertips on every inch of me.” Amen, Sister!! :o) That’s a perfect heart-cry and exactly where He wants us!

  17. beautiful post. do you know why I believe we became such good friends when we’ve never met in real life? because of this heart you have to shine Jesus. You are leaving a legacy like no other for your son. You inspire me.
