As I explained, the purpose of this blog is accountability to help me accomplish some goals I have for my life. Yesterday I shared my Personal Goals. Today, the topic is homemaking. Not my best subject, though I’m hoping to improve.
I’m just gonna give it to you straight…I am a terrible housekeeper. I pretty much don’t clean until it’s just super bad or we have company coming over. When I say clean I mean get the cleaners out and scrub stuff. I just hate doing it. However, I am fabulous at “straightening”. My house is generally well picked up, but there are definitely dust bunnies under the couch, dishes in the sink, clothes on the floor, and soap scum in my bathroom (there might even be a dirty cloth diaper laying on the counter in the laundry room…oh my!)
In addition to “cleaning up my cleaning up” (you liked that didn’t you!), I want to feed my family better food. I am absolutely overwhelmed by this though. There are so many options and extremes, so I need to figure out a good balance. I do NOT want to spend all day cooking, so how can I make that work? Then there is the issue of the budget. Seems like it costs a fortune to feed your family good, whole foods.
Without further adieu, here are my goals for homemaking:
- Set up and USE a cleaning schedule with daily, weekly, and monthly chores (suggestions welcome)
- Start meal planning
- Cook with better quality foods
- Cut out MSG
- Use more natural cleaners: specifically with the laundry, dishwasher, and general household cleaning (recipes welcome)
I’ve already started on a few of these with some tiny baby steps, so I’ll update you on those soon.
You may be wondering how these goals tie in with my theme of being a steward of the new life I have in Christ. While these seem like mundane parts of life, I definitely believe the state of my home sets the tone for our lives. I know I feel anxious when my home is a mess. Also, God has blessed me with a beautiful home I want to take care of!
Similarly, my body is a temple of the Lord (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). I want to nourish my own body and those of my family with the best possible foods for good health and growth.
Make sense now?
How do you take care of the mundane parts of life? Any good whole food recipes you want to share?
