Today I’m sharing my last set of goals. We’ve already talked about my personal, homemaking, and parenting goals. Now, we’re focusing on my relationship with my husband.
My small group at church is studying iMarriage by Andy Stanley. Early in the study, he talked about how you need to be committed to the other person in your marriage, not the marriage itself. At first, that set off my alarms. Not be committed to my marriage? Crazy!
But the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. If I am committed to Michael’s best and serving him in whatever way I can, the marriage will naturally prosper and grow. After all, God didn’t say husbands love your marriage. Wives respect your marriage. He said husbands love your WIVES. Wives respect your HUSBANDS. (Ephesians 5:33)
Keeping that in mind, here are my goals for our marriage relationship:
- Nightly prayer/devotion time together
- Accountability for personal time with God
- Monthly date
- Journal family blessings/answered prayers together
How do you keep your relationship with your spouse healthy? How do you feel about committing to your spouse over your marriage?
