Not 5 seconds after I typed in that title and got the pictures loaded from the camera, the baby woke up. Everyday life.

A reader recently requested more posts about every day life. So here is what’s going on lately:

1. Nearly my entire family on my dad’s side gathered this weekend to celebrate my grandfather’s 85th birthday. Not many people get to do that. We are grateful.

2. After the birthday part, my parents kindly kept my son for the night, so hubby and I got to go on an impromptu date AND we got to sleep in until 8:00 AM on Sunday morning. I never thought the day would come that I would qualify 8 AM as “late”. While staying at my parents house, my son started calling my mother Patsy (her first name). Now when he sees her picture, he says Patsy. I find this hilarious.

3. Sunday afternoon I attended a my childhood best friend’s baby shower. It still shocks me that we are old enough to have children. Some of my high school classmates have TWO. When exactly do you qualify as a grown up?

4. Hubby and I watched Big Brother last night (insert collective gasp! We all have our vices, right?), and I’m conflicted over what I want to happen this week. I was a fan of Dan until he acted like a total jerk last night during the Pandora’s Box thingy. I guess we all have our moments…

Thomas eats dirt.

5. Today I was the cool mom–we played outside. Twice. (okay, confession, I was hoping the second time would tire him out enough for a second nap. no luck. but we still had fun!) Not only did we play outside, but we played with sand and water. We made big messes. Thomas ate dirt while I stood there taking pictures. Mom of the Year, right here. (I did help him wash it out of his mouth after I got sufficient pictures.)

6. I started reading 7 by Jen Hatmaker today. Oh My Word is this woman funny. It’s almost not fair. One minute you are cracking up and the next you are totally convicted. (I’m reading with the ladies over at Bloom (part of in(courage)). You should join us! Just started this week!

7. I’m totally bummed because I’m supposed to be leaving to see two of my besties from seminary on Wednesday, but it just wasn’t meant to be. First, my ride home didn’t work out. And now, I just got notification from the airline that I should probably reschedule my flight out there due to Hurricane Isaac. So I think that trip is a no go for now. So. Sad.

8. It’s 10:00 PM and I really should be in bed, but I have two more points in order to make this a Top Ten Tuesday post.

9. Tomorrow, I have scheduled my first video chat with a blogging friend. I’m kinda nervous. But it’ll be cool. We are chatting about some exciting stuff that I will get to share with you in October!!

10. I think we should declare today Delurker Day! If you read this blog, but never comment, leave a comment! I’d love to know who is out there! This reminds me of our Five Minute Friday party. If you participate in FMF, we are gonna party it up right before Lisa Jo posts the prompt (Midnight Eastern), so connect with us on Twitter using hash-tag #FMFparty. Shoot me or Nikki an e-mail and we (she!) will remind you. :)

  1. thanks for giving us a peek inside. love the everyday stuff :) in Him, -L

  2. Charlie Brown Teacher says:

I read the book 7 as well. LOVE her writing style. The humor made her points digestible.

  3. Your note about the baby shower made me think about when I found out that one of my middle school friends just got engaged the other day. I couldn’t help but think of how crazy life is. We’re the same age and she’s just getting engaged (for the first time) and I’ve got kids the same age or older than when she and I were when we met. Life is nutty like that.

    • so true! we are still in the getting first jobs/engaged/having first babies stage. It’ll be interesting to see where we all are in a few years. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. What a fun list. love the photo and the delurker invite. I too am a closet Big Brother fan. Hate the negative energy but somehow keep watching it. love it/hate it…. why oh, why??

    • It just sucks you in doesn’t it?! I have to admit, this season hasn’t been so bad on the negativity and language.

      • One more confession – LOL – this year I have peeked a few times on the spoiler pages and read transcripts of the live feeds. There has been lots of profanity and negativity in the house. I just don’t think they are showing as much. I sort of like Ian – he was such a nerd ( still is) but really knows the game and played quite well until he lets his feelings take charge. oh the fun…

        • We love Ian too!! he’s just adorable! I hope that’s who he really is and he’s not faking it for the show. He killed me pacing with his coffee cup at nominations last week!

  5. Delurker Day — I Love that! ;) So sorry your trip didn’t work out right now. But how fun — a video chat! I can say that because it’s not me doing it — I’d be nervous, too! And my hubby and I watch Master Chef together every Tuesday night. It’s our vice. And I’m looking forward to it tonight! :)

  6. Love your list! Number 8 cracked me up. That is often the way I am when I think I have a million things to make a list and then struggle around 7 or 8. Love the filler.
The book really intrigues me. I can’t wait to hear you take on it.
Looking forward to your vlog tomorrow. :)

    • Oh I wasn’t clear, we are just video chatting to do some brainstorming planning. It won’t be on the blog! But I do hope to do a vlog sometime soon! I just can’t nail down a good idea!

  7. Heather Windeler says:

I loved your list and cracked up at the picture of your son! Just think when he is a senior some day and you are having his graduation party you can pull that lovely pic out for one and all to enjoy. ;) I am loving Seven too! I feel like she is writing all the things I think, but don’t always say. I am so glad we both ended up getting a copy of the book! Yay! :) PTL!

  8. I really, really enjoyed this post. Seeing a glimpse into your life was special. We are enjoying a wonderful time due to Hurricane Isaac taking a different course than originally planned. You’ll just have to hop on over to Haven of Rest to see if I was able to get some pics up :-)

  9. StefanieYoungBrown says:

What a great list! I recently heard of “7”. I’m anxious to hear your thoughts. I’ll pop in at Bloom to hear what other’s are saying as well. Interesting premise.

    Have a great day!

    • It really is! I was telling my husband about it last night at dinner, and he said, “I will not be participating”. I laughed…he knows me too well! Although in all seriousness, I haven’t decided how I’m to apply what I’m reading. I think I need to read, digest it some more, and seek the Lord.

      • StefanieYoungBrown says:

I may be “seconding” your husband:))) Can’t wait to hear what HE leads you to do, my friend…

  10. Love the pix! Top ten, I don’t think I could leave it at ten ever though! I don’t know how you did that! :) Love ya!

  11. I love the picture! What a cutie, sand and all! Happy birthday to your grandfather, that surely is a blessing and so is date night. Yay for you:) If I’m up late on Thursday I’m in!

  12. Ha! LOVE the photo… Claire would spend all day outside if I would let her. I’m looking forward to having a fenced yard some day! :)

    • Yeah, we don’t have a fence either. We just look like rednecks with all his toys strewn out everywhere!! We have vacant lots on either side of us that are a mess! It’s stressful trying to keep him out of them.

  13. Love your everyday life, friend! I hate that I don’t get to see you this week…but I’m encouraged that it WILL happen :-)
